Early Life
Jonathan Henry Ortlip II was born in Orange County, California on May 4th, 1988 to Jon and Ruthie Ortlip. At age two, his family moved to Manchester, England. Henry developed a love for soccer playing on the streets with friends in the UK. In 1996, his family moved back to the US to Cleveland. In high school, Henry attended Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, which had a renowned soccer program. In 2004, Henry’s sophomore year, the team won the state championship.
Education
Henry attended Houghton College in New York. After his first year, he transferred to Azusa Pacific University in Los Angeles to study film. He also studied acting at Playhouse West Acting School in North Hollywood. Henry worked as an intern on the Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien. Henry graduated from Azusa Pacific University in 2012. In 2015 Henry began grad school at UCLA's school of Theater Film and Television in Screenwriting. During this time, he also studied directing at James Franco's Studio4. In Spring 2016, upon finishing at UCLA, Henry's script The Big Bear was recognized as one of the three winners in UCLA's annual screenwriting competition.
Career
While in college, Henry was discovered by a talent agency in West Hollywood, which led to modeling and auditioning for well-known brands and TV shows. While on a photo shoot for Adidas, Henry was encouraged by Sports Illustrated photographer, Walter Iooss, to pursue photography. In 2012, Henry moved to San Diego to work for Risen Media. He served as a writer and photographer for Risen magazine. In 2014, he produced a special edition World Cup issue and interviewed World Cup players from around the world, including US goalkeeper, Tim Howard. Henry worked as a script consultant for multiple independent films that Risen produced.
In 2014, Henry left Risen. Since he has worked on numerous projects for companies and non-profits that need 5 minute films to express ideas and further their growth. He has traveled to over thirty countries capturing stories and documenting other cultures. Henry currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
